Modern possibilities of infusion therapy in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis

Summary. The mechanisms of development and clinical manifestations of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) are analyzed in the article, the infusion therapy program is presented, the prospects of the use of xylitol-based infusions in the treatment of DKA are discussed. The authors also presented their own experience with the use of Xylat solution. It has been shown that the use of Xylat can have a positive effect on various parts of the pathological process – from elimination of dehydration to the correction of disorders of acid-base status (ABS). Xylat should be started with the first signs of DKA, even in the absence or low severity of ketonuria according to the nitroprusside test. This tactic makes it possible to normalize ABS more quickly and reduce the overall amount of infusion therapy.
